Ryan Adams' Gold album

"When the Stars Go Blue" is a popular alternative country song initially composed and performed by solo artist and former Whiskeytown band member (1994–1999), Ryan Adams. It was first released with his album Gold on 7 September 2001]. The song was subsequently performed by The Corrs on their album VH1 Presents: The Corrs, Live In Dublin in 2002, featuring U2's Bono. The group and Bono did another cover of the song during the Edinburgh Live 8 Concert in July 2005. It was also performed on 6 May 2004 by pop-rocker Cary Pierce at Schubas Tavern in Chicago, Illinois for his EP Cary Pierce Live at Schubas, and yet again in 2005 by relatively unknown artists Tyler Hilton and Bethany Joy Lenz, as featured on One Tree Hill.

In 2006, the song was released by Tim McGraw on his album Tim McGraw Reflected: Hits Vol. 2, with added country-style and more instrumental aid.

Phil Lesh & Friends played Stars Go Blue at 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on July 21st, 2006. Because Phil Lesh supports free trading of his audience recorded live shows, this show & track are available at archive.org (direct links provided below).

The song (Adams' version) was played in an episode of the TV series ER (season 13, episode 9).

This song was also the opening and closing music for the audiobook of Lisey's Story by Stephen King.
