Wigan is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Traditionally one of Labour's most secure strongholds, Wigan was once a mill town (before the mills all around the town closed), and is famous for rugby league, Northern Soul, Wigan Pier, Uncle Joe's Mintballs, George Formby and now its Premiership Football Team. In short, a town that has always had a lively culture, and a political loyalty to the Labour Party, despite the fact there is little evidence of social or economic problems. Despite conservative areas in the town such as Swinley and Orrell, its terraced housing and council estates (generally much less deprived than other such areas in the North West as well) have always kept it Labour. Which is, in a way, ironic, as Wigan has always described itself as being 'Ancient and Loyal', the 'loyal' of the motto referring to being loyal to 'The Crown'!

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Greater Manchester, the Boundary Commission for England has recommended alterations to the existing constituencies in the Wigan area. The electoral wards used in the altered Wigan constituency are:
