William Higgs

William Guy Higgs (January 18, 1862 - June 11, 1951), Australian politician.
Higgs' political life began in the Parliament of Queensland, representing the electorate of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, from March 11, 1899 until July 17, 1901.
After Federation of the Australian states, he became a Senator for Queensland from March 30, 1901 until December 31, 1906.
From April 13, 1910 until December 16, 1922, Higgs was the member for the Division of Capricornia, Queensland, in the Australian House of Representatives . He initially represented the Australian Labor Party, became an Independent in 1920, then served in the Nationalist Party of Australia until 1922.
He served as Treasurer in the ministry of Billy Hughes from October 27, 1915, until his resignation from the ministry on October 27, 1916. His resignation came about through a difference of opinion over Hughes' support of conscription during World War I.
