Wiltshire Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Wiltshire and Swindon in south-west England.

Wiltshire Police Authority has 9 councillors (from both Wiltshire County Council and Swindon Borough Council), 3 justices of the peace, and 5 independent members.

The force was established in 1839 under the County Police Act 1839, and was the first county police force to be formed. Its motto is Primus Et Optimus which means First and Best.

Wiltshire Police is currently recruiting a new chief constable following the departure of Martin Richards who started as chief constable as Sussex on October 1st. Mr Richards leaves Wiltshire police after three years in the role of chief constable - he arrived in September 2004. Previously the role was held by Dame Elizabeth Neville DBE QPM.

Deputy chief constable Stephen Long will take the role of Acting Chief Constable until the new chief, Brian Moore, takes over on 1st January 2008 (Mr Moore, 48, is currently Deputy Chief Constable with Surrey Police).

The current Assistant Chief Constable is Andy Marsh.

The headquarters of the force is currently Devizes in Wiltshire, chosen as being the point most geographically close to the centre of the force Area.
