Winchcombe railway station

Winchcombe railway station was a railway station serving Winchcombe in Gloucestershire, England. The station was actually located in the village of Greet, several miles from Winchcombe.
It was located on the former Cheltenham to Stratford-upon-Avon line, which was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1906. The station was closed to passengers in the mid-1960s; the line itself remained open until 1976. The track was later lifted, but not for long. The stretch between Toddington railway station and Cheltenham Racecourse, including Winchcombe, has since been reconstructed and reopened as a heritage railway called the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. A new station has been erected at Winchcombe, on its original site, the building being the former station at Monmouth (Troy). Nearby is the 693 yard Greet Tunnel, the second longest on any preserved line in Britain.
