Woodhouse Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Woodhouse Park is a locality in the south of the area of Wythenshawe, in the city of Manchester in North West England.

The area encompasses Wythenshawe town centre and runs south to Manchester Airport. To the west the area is bordered by the M56 motorway from which it is served by Junctions 4 (Wythenshawe) and 5 (Manchester Airport). To the east is the town of Heald Green, which is in the borough of Stockport.

The other areas of Wythenshawe are: Baguley, Benchill, Moss Nook, Newall Green, Northenden (previously a village), Peel Hall, Sharston and Northern Moor.

The majority of housing in Woodhouse Park is either council housing or former council housing. Following a democratic vote, the council properties are now under the control of local housing associations. The housing associations have invested a great deal into the local area, improving local leisure facilities and the quality of maintenance of the housing stock.

A substantial amount of new housing is being built on grey-field and brown-field sites throughout the area in an attempt to encourage local investment.[citation needed]

Much public investment has taken place since 2003, including the (partial) rebuilding of Wythenshawe town centre. Further investment has been earmarked, including connection to the Manchester metrolink and greater expansion of the local town centre shopping facilities. This coincides with a local developmental plan that incorporates Manchester Airport.

The area is well served by transport links. The M56 and M60 motorways are within 5 minutes drive. The new Manchester Airport Link Road (currently in the planning stage) will connect Woodhouse Park with other boroughs in the south of Stockport and provide a direct link to the A6 at Hazel Grove. There are also 24 hour trains running to Manchester city centre and across the North of England from Manchester Airport Train Station.
