The 1100 GMT edition was the original edition of the programme, aiming for the morning audience in the United States where BBC World had been recently launched after a decade, first aired on 03 July 2006 at 1900 (ET).

Even before the channel lanuched in US, there had been a simulcast of the channel on BBC America which had added the programme when it was launched and included in a 3-hour morning broadcast[1].

It is also being shown on BBC World in other regions, especially Asia-Pacific at 20:00 (HK/Phil), which the programme had been considered as their Evening news programme. This may had been an inspiration to make other editions of World News Today in Primetime slots.

This edition has been produced by BBC World.

On 16 September 2006, the Nik Gowing edition had originally been dedicated for the audience in Asia-pacific, which had been shown at 05:00 (HK/Phil) or 21:00 (GMT)[2] but it had been replaced by the Zeinab Badawi edition.

This edition has been returned on 23 July 2007, which has now been considered as a Evening news programme for viewers in South Asia. Shown on 21:30 (India) / 24:00 (HK/Phil), and the only slot that had not been moved even for BST.

This edition had also been reported that this edition is showing Asia Today instead for World Business Report.

Also, this edition has been produced by BBC World.

This edition had replaced the Nik Gowing edition on 29 May 2007 and a previous programme which had been also a BBC World and BBC Four simulcast, The World.[3]

The 1900 GMT edition also replaced The World, a simulcast programme on BBC World and BBC Four in the UK, though for only half an hour with the latter. The new World News Today bulletin continues on BBC World for a full hour.

Unlike th other editions, this has a different, more calmer theme music but still has some similarities with the original theme.

This edition has been produced by BBC World.

This edition had been the latest edition of the "World News Today" programming, which had started on 01 Oct 2007 and is also dedicated for the viewers in the United States but shown at 2200 ET. This edition airs on BBC World, BBC News 24, and BBC One (as a part of its "Overnight Broadcast") but not on BBC America.

This edition had been different to other editions of the programme, these are the examples:

  • It has 3 hosts: Philippa Thomas in the BBC studio in Washington DC, a presenter in Television Centre (whichever one is doing the 'overnight' BBC World/BBC News 24 simulcasts) and Rico Hizon for World Business Report in Singapore.
  • Similar to overnight broadcasts & The World Today, they also present UK news in every 15 minutes but it only happens occasionally.
  • Because it is also shown at Saturdays (in Asia-Pacific), World Business Report from Singapore is not posible and is replaced by an Earlier 15 min edition in BBC America and BBC World. But for viewers in UK, they are bringing short business news and a more longer UK News.
  • Unlike the other 3 editions of World News Today, which had been produced by BBC World, this is the only edition which has been produced by BBC News 24 because it is a part of the overnight broadcasts.
