The team is also known to draw some of the largest crowds in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, and have placed 2nd in average attendance the last few years, only behind the Weeks Crushers.
The Mariners hosted the 2005 Fred Page Cup, but they lost in the final.
During the 2006-2007 season, the Mariners have had a dismal season, mired in last place in the MJAHL's Bent Division basement. Paul Currie stepped down from the head coach/GM position in January, but continues behind the scenes work. Before the trade deadline, Currie made some questionable moves, moving the teams best players for cash, considerations, or players of a lesser calibre.
On April 3, 2007 the sale of the Mariners to East Hants Penguins (NSJRBHL/NSJHL) owner Jack Ross was completed. A news release on the Mariners website states that the team will be rebranded & get a new logo, as well as hinting that most of the team from 06-07 will NOT be returning. A press conference will be held in Yarmouth for fans of the team in the coming weeks to announce the new team philosophy. Big things are expected from the Mariners in 07-08, as the East Hants Penguins went virtually undefeated & swept all the playoff series they were in enroute to the club's first NSJHL Championship.
