Yasuj is the capital of the Kohkiluyeh and Buyer Ahmad province (originally a part of Fars province) in southwestern Iran, which covers an area of approximately 15,563 km² in the Zagros Mountains.

It had an estimated population of 136,509 in 2005 [1], and has a thermoelectric power station.

Yasuj is the place where Alexander the Great and his Macedonian forces stormed the Persian Gates ("Darvazeh-ye Fars"), and fought themselves a way into the Persian heartland (331 BCE).
