Yonggary or Yongary (용가리), Korean for "dragon", appeared in the 1967 teukchwal (特撮; Korean for tokusatsu) film, Taekoesu Yonggary (대괴수 용가리; also known as Yongary, Monster from the Deep) (1967), which is the first Korean kaiju movie.
Inspired by the success of the Godzilla and Gamera films in Japan, Korea made their own monster. Yongary is a large, bipedal reptile, with a row of small plates running up its back, a thagomizer on its tail and a horn on its nose. Some have compared its appearance to Godzilla. Yongary can breathe fire, and fire a laser from the horn on its snout.

The first movie follows the story of an earthquake heading through South Korea. The earthquake is found to be the monster Yongary, who proceeds to trash cities. Yongary lives off of eating gasoline and oil. It was discovered that Yongary has a weakness to ammonia precipitate, and died an agonizing death at the end of the film after being dusted by this poison.
In the United States, the original film is now widely available on DVD in various budget-DVD packs and single budget DVDs.
Inspired by the 1998 Godzilla film, a new Yongary film was made in 1999 by prolific Korean filmmaker Shim Hyung-rae, using unconventional computer-generated imagery effects, and an American cast to appeal to international markets. The film's title in the US is Reptilian. Reptilian is based about aliens that has resurrected a 350 foot tall fire breathing dinosaur from the grave and uses this dinosaur to destroy the world but the aliens lose control of Yonggary, and Yonggary battles Cyker, the aliens' ultimate weapon. The battle destroys a city, and Yonggary wins and saves humanity.
In South Korea, Yonggary was very unpopular, and no DVDs were sold. In the USA and Japan, you can buy them there from online, or stores.
The Heisei Yonggary movie includes some American actors.
The Heisei design of Yonggary is comletely different from the original. He is taller and has a jewel on his forehead and three horns. The original just had one horn that was on his nose. When Yonggary has the jewel, he is aggressive. Destroying the jewel will change him and he turns good.
