Zinio is a company providing digital magazine distribution for popular magazines in a digital format.
Zinio provides print publishers with a way to distribute their printed publication digitally, to read online or offline.
A reader program is required to access the magazines, which utilize a combination of technology licensed from Adobe and Contentguard. It has been suggested that there are DRM protections embedded in the files. When accessing a page previously viewed in the session, the page loads much faster than the initial view.
Zinio provides a feasible offline solution for Mac and Microsoft Windows. Also worth noting, is the good selection of publications covering a broad range of topics.
Zinio magazines leave a pale gray watermark on printed pages as a method of copy protection.
Zinio have on contact confirmed that they are developing a universal binary for mac but have not provided a release date.
Zinio has offices in San Francisco, New York and London. The company is privately held and investors include Apax Partners, Centre Palisades Ventures, IDEO Ventures, Intel Capital, NetOyster, New Enterprise Associates, Odyssey Capital and Starvest Partners.
