From Latin historia < Ancient Greek ἱστορία (historia), learning through research, narration of what is learned) < ἱστορέω (historeō), to learn through research, to inquire) < ἵστωρ (histōr), the one who knows, the expert, the judge), from *ϝίδτωρ, from Indo-European *wid- (know, knowledge).
